AXA Global Healthcare has announced a strategic partnership with Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya and Executive Healthcare Solutions Limited (EHS) to expand access to international private medical insurance (IPMI) across Africa.
Starting this month, AXA’s health insurance policies in Kenya will be underwritten locally by Old Mutual, combining AXA’s global healthcare expertise with Old Mutual’s strong market presence. The collaboration also includes the transfer of EHS’s existing IPMI portfolio and the launch of a new Global Executive Health Plan, tailored for individuals and small businesses in key African markets.
The partnership signals AXA’s growing commitment to Africa’s healthcare sector and reflects confidence in the region’s long-term potential. Together, the three organisations aim to provide affordable, high-quality medical coverage designed to meet Africa’s evolving health needs.
“Collaborating with Old Mutual represents a major milestone in our global growth strategy — and more importantly, in our long-term commitment to Africa,” said Karim Idilby, Chief Growth Officer at AXA Health International. “Old Mutual’s leadership position makes them an ideal partner, especially as we focus on individuals and SMEs.”
Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya Managing Director, Japheth Ogalloh, welcomed the partnership, saying it aligns with the company’s mission to make trusted health coverage more accessible.
“By combining local underwriting with world-class international health cover, we can deliver solutions that meet the needs of individuals and businesses across Kenya,” Ogalloh said.
As part of the collaboration, EHS will serve as the sole distributor of the new Global Executive Health Plan (GEHP), which provides both regional and global cover. The agreement includes the renewal-based transfer of EHS’s existing customer portfolio across several African countries, effective August 1, 2025.
“Our deep understanding of the African market means we know what clients truly need from their international health cover,” said Aly Maherali, CEO of EHS. “By partnering exclusively with AXA, we can offer solutions backed by a trusted global brand, giving clients confidence and peace of mind.”
AXA Health International’s Global Head of Distribution, Andy O’Cain, said the dual partnership gives the insurer “the perfect platform to become the leading player in East Africa’s IPMI market,” adding that the collaboration builds on AXA’s successful expansion in the UAE and other global markets.
