Uganda has recorded suspected dysentery cases above the country’s alert threshold, prompting the Ministry of Health to call for an investigation, according to its latest weekly epidemiological bulletin.
The increase was reported during epidemiological week 30, covering July 20–26, 2026. The Ministry said the number of observed dysentery cases was above the alert threshold and that the situation “warrants investigation.”
The Ministry calculates the alert threshold using the average number of suspected and confirmed typhoid and dysentery cases reported each week over the previous three years.
The bulletin does not provide the number of dysentery cases recorded in the week or identify the districts driving the increase, so the extent and geographic concentration of the signal cannot be established from the bulletin alone.
The Ministry also reported that districts and health facilities reporting Guinea worm and Buruli ulcer cases require priority support and supervision on disease case definitions.
