Dr. Yusuf Baseke, the long-serving District Health Officer of Kasese district, retired on Tuesday after 10 years of service. During his tenure, the district witnessed notable progress in establishing health facilities, with the number increasing from 87 in 2017 to 144 by the time of his retirement
Dr. Baseke credited his success to effective teamwork and unwavering support from both government and development partners.
As Dr. Baseke steps down, Stephen Bagonza, the Assistant District Health Officer in charge of environmental health, has taken up the responsibility of overseeing the DHO’s office temporarily.
Bagonza expressed his commitment to building upon the foundation laid by Dr. Baseke, with a particular focus on enhancing health services in the hard-to-reach sub-counties of the district.
The Kasese District Acting Principal Secretary, Catherine Mbambu, lauded both retirees for their outstanding service to the district. She urged the serving officers to seek their guidance whenever needed, leveraging the experience and knowledge of these seasoned professionals.
The Kasese District LCV Chairperson, Eliphazi Bukombi Muhindi, appealed to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to expedite the recruitment exercise for new civil servants to fill the positions left vacant by the retirees to ensure a seamless continuation of vital services to the residents.
