Jessica Sabano works with The Daily Monitor, and in her interview she talks about mothers who could not go home with their new bundles of joy because they failed to pay their bills at the hospitals during the pandemic. Although some were eventually bailed out there rights were violated as the hospitals kept them hostage and confiscated their personal identification documents until they paid up their bills.
This interview by Jessica Sabano was produced as one of the stories we covered under the Health Journalists Network under the ‘Mobilizing Media Fighting Covid19’ project by Journalists for Human Rights which has contributed to international public health efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19 and its impact on human rights, in particular women’s and girls’ rights across 12 countries and is funded by Global Affairs Canada.
