Tororo Central Police Station is holding a man accused of impersonating a doctor, illegally treating patients, and extorting money at Tororo General Hospital.
According to Albert Amula, the Tororo Deputy Resident District Commissioner, the suspect, identified as Job Obbo from Mirikit Sub County, was arrested on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. His arrest followed a complaint from a caregiver who reported that Obbo had demanded UGX 15,000 to purchase a surgical blade for an operation.
“The charges against him include impersonation and extorting money from patients,” Amula stated. “Once police conclude their investigations, he will be presented before the courts of law.”
Dominic Okech, an eyewitness, recounted how the suspect, dressed in a doctor’s coat, posed as new hospital staff near the operating theater. He targeted a patient scheduled for a cesarean section, soliciting money under the pretense of purchasing surgical supplies.
The scheme unraveled when hospital security intervened, leading to Obbo’s arrest. Authorities have since intensified scrutiny to prevent further cases of medical fraud, warning the public to remain vigilant.
