Corporate football teams from across Uganda are set to converge in Mbale City this month for a tournament aimed at raising funds to equip the physiotherapy department at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
The Ugandan National Corporate Tournament Eastern Edition 2026, hosted by Mbale Corporate Club, will be held on August 22 and 23 at Mbale Cricket Grounds under the theme, “Kicking for Hope and Mobility.”
Sandy Michael, the chairperson of the organising committee, said the tournament brings together corporate football teams and institutions to promote networking, healthy living and community support through sport. He said this year’s Eastern Region edition will specifically support patients and sportspeople who require physiotherapy services.
“The current facility at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital is under-facilitated in terms of equipment and other materials. The purpose is to re-equip and enhance the department,” Sunday said.
He said the initiative will benefit accident victims requiring prolonged rehabilitation, stroke patients and sportsmen and women who suffer injuries but have limited access to appropriate rehabilitation services. The organisers expect more than 60 teams to participate in the two-day tournament.
Sunday said 42 teams had registered by August 15, with the number expected to exceed the target before the August 20 registration deadline.
Each participating team is required to pay three million shillings, with proceeds from the tournament going towards equipping and improving the physiotherapy department at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
The organisers say the tournament will provide an opportunity for companies to combine sporting activities with community support by contributing to improved rehabilitation services in the region.
